Birthday

Overview

  • Obviously, the options here are limitless depending on your giftee’s interests. This can feel daunting, but we can help.
  • If you have a gift in mind but don’t know how to present it, search for it on our list and we can help suggest themes around that gift.
  • Significant birthday coming up? Have a look below for suggestions at specific ages.
  • No idea what to give? Check out our themes based on hobbies (eg: Horses, Book Worm) or themes that work for anyone (eg: Elements, Colours).
  • For significant birthdays, see below for some specific ideas associated with each number.
  • Some ideas for any birthday:
    • Take them out for dinner. Have a look at our list of ideas based on dining options.
    • Take them out to an event (music, theatre, sports).
    • Take a trip somewhere. Have a look at our list of ideas based on travel destinations.
    • Pick your giftee up some flowers. Check out our list of different flowers to see more ideas.
  • On a budget? Your time is one of the best gifts you can give. Offer to help with a project they’re working on or look after their kids for a night. Try designing your own gift certificate to represent the tasks.
  • Is your giftee your significant other? Come up with a unique date every month for your partner. Keep it a surprise and reveal the activity just before the date. This doesn’t have to be expensive. Consider things like a walk in the woods, making a fancy dinner at home or curling up with a movie. Make some of the activities specific to the season/month they will get that date (eg: tobogganing).
  • Do an online search for famous people who share a birth year with your giftee. Try working gifts/presentations around those famous people (eg: Tom Petty and John Candy were both born in 1950, try listening to some Petty while you give your gift and/or watch a John Candy movie like Planes, Trains and Automobiles)
  • Stuck for ideas? Donate to a charity that is close to your giftee’s heart.
  • Have a suggestion we haven’t covered here? Let us know and we’ll try to add it onto the list
  • Try wrapping with plain paper and applying pictures of birthday cakes, candles, etc onto the gift, or draw them on yourself.
  • If you’re interested in decorating/personalizing your wrap job but don’t know where to get large pieces of blank paper, most wrapping paper is single sided. Try putting the wrapping paper on inside out.
  • Print out a list of significant events that occurred on their birthday, use it as wrapping paper.
  • Newspapers or newsprint wrapping paper make a great wrapping option
  • Put together a list of the most popular songs the year your giftee was born. Play it while they’re opening gifts.
  • Use quotes or phrases that relate to your theme when you present the gifts or in your card. For example:
    • Birthdays are good for you. The more you have, the longer you live.
    • “Don’t just count your years, make your years count.” ~George Meredith
    • “Youth has no age.” ~Pablo Picasso
    • “Do not regret growing older, it’s a privilege denied to many”
