Travel Bug

Overview

  • If your giftee loves travel (and who doesn’t?), consider using this theme. The sky’s the limit in terms of budget, but this theme doesn’t have to break the bank.
  • On a budget? Take your giftee on a virtual trip to the part of the world they want to go. For example if they want to travel to Europe:
    • Give them a Swedish massage (through a spa or you can do this for them yourself).
    • Dinner at a French restaurant (or have French fries).
    • wine tasting night featuring Austrian wines (or buy some European beer).
  • Think about things that someone might need to travel or where your giftee might like to go:
    • Travel gear: luggagesunglassesbinoculars
    • Travel:
      • Already have a specific destination in mind? Check out our list of travel destinations/ideas and the themes we suggest working with for each.
      • If you don’t know where your giftee would like to travel, just ask them. You can make it a hypothetical conversation: “if you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go and why”?
  • Use Google Earth to explore the Seven Wonders of the modern world.
  • Book an escape room adventure involving a foreign land (eg: The Forbidden Temple) or travelling (eg: Mutiny on the High Seas, The Great Train Heist).
  • See our Trip Around the World theme for more ideas.
  • You can keep the theme simple and just present gifts around travel or you can incorporate other themes. For instance: if you’re including binoculars or sunglasses, they could easily represent sight in our Senses themes. Work a compass into our Treasure Hunt theme. A flight somewhere or flight lesson could represent air in our Elements theme. And don’t forget about our Road Trip theme if you’re traveling by car.
  • Take a look at our list of travel destinations for more ideas.
  • Think outside the box.
    • A piggy bank to save up for their dream trip?
    • Airplanes are often referred to as birds. Give your giftee a stuffed bird and have it represent tickets somewhere
  • Try wrapping your gift with plain paper and applying pictures related to travel (eg: maps, road signs) onto the gift, or draw them on yourself.
  • Tie a small travel related item into the ribbon around the gift (eg: a neck pillow, compression socks-for long flights).
  • For smaller gifts, add a unique touch by making your own box.
  • Play music from the area of the world your giftee would like to go.
  • Use quotes or phrases that relate to your theme when you present the gifts or in your card. For example:
    • Have a good “trip”!
    • I love you. “Plane” and simple. Happy anniversary!
    • Bon voyage!
    • I may not be able to get you to ___ (destination X), but a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.
