Overview

If your giftee loves music (either listening to it or playing an instrument themselves), consider using this theme.

Gift Ideas

Think about things that a music lover would like to receive or do:
- Activities: music, singing or DJ lessons, tickets to a concert or musical theatre… Keep in mind that there are often great local bands playing in smaller venues like bars. Check out your local pub for ideas.
- A gift card for iTunes or Google Play so they can download their favourite music.
- Consider giving a musical instrument or supplies like guitar picks.
On a budget? Watch a musical movie and make your giftee a “mix tape”. (For those of you who aren’t familiar with the term, a mix tape is basically a play list that you put together for someone else.)
You can keep the theme simple and just present gifts around music or you can incorporate other themes. For instance, music related gifts work very well as the hearing component of our Senses theme or explore the idea of music as therapy with our Types of Therapy theme.
Another option is to work the theme around different types of music. Your main gift might be tickets to the orchestra, but you can add all sorts of fun gifts into the theme this way. There are no restrictions here, use your imagination. A few examples:
- Music: rock. Gift: rock climbing, a hike in the mountains, Rockstar energy drink. Or see our Rock, Paper, Scissors theme for more examples.
- Music: blues. Gift: a sapphire, blue flowers. Or see our Colours theme for more examples.
- Music: pop. Gift: pop (AKA: soda), popsicles, popcorn.
- Music: country. Gift: a drive in the country, a cowboy hat, a pair of jeans.
- Music: electronic/EDM. Gift: any electronics (TV, video games, phone, camera, computer).
- Music: hip-hop/rap. Gift: wrapping paper, play hop scotch or go out for lunch and have a wrap.
Think outside the box. For example, there are a lot of items that play ‘music’ but might not be generally associated with a music lover (eg: old school jewelry boxes, clothes dryers often play a tune when the cycle is done, door bells)
Stuck for ideas? There are many charitable organizations that provide music therapy to those in need. Consider donating to one on your giftee’s behalf.

Wrapping

Apply pictures of instruments or famous musicians to your gifts, or simply wrap your gift in plain paper and draw musical notes on it.
You could also wrap the gift in some old sheet music (or print some off the internet).
Tie a small music related item into the ribbon around the gift (eg: drum sticks, headphones).

Presentation

Play music representing your gift while presenting it.
Use quotes or phrases that relate to your theme when you present the gifts or in your card. For example:
- Party like a rock star this birthday!
- Time to face the music and get a year older. Happy birthday!
- I hope this gift is music to your ears!
- Happy anniversary to someone I always feel in ‘tune’ with.
- Heard you’ve been singing the blues. Hope you feel better soon.
