Alcohol: colour based/reference

  • The simplest approach here is to visit your local liquor store and go with a beverage that is the colour you’re looking for.  If you feel like a slightly greater challenge, read the labels and look for colour references on the labels.  Examples include Blue Moon Brewery, Yellow Tail Wines, Red Truck Brewery, Orange County Distillery, Abita’s Purple Haze, Big Rock’s Purple Gas and of course, there’s Belgium “whites”, “red” ales and “brown” lagers.
  • If you fancy yourself a bartender or are lucky enough to have one in your vicinity, you can take it up a level and create a drink that has the colour you’re after:
    • If yellow makes you mellow, go with Galliano.
    • If blue is your to do, try blue Curacao.
    • If red is in your head, there’s no alcohol in it but Grenadine will do the trick.
    • If it’s green you want seen, Chartreuse has been kicking it since 1737 (true story).
    • If it’s purple is in your circle, maybe try Viniq.
    • If orange is what you…..uh oh, nothing rhymes with orange. Hmm, we didn’t think this through very well.  The better known orange drinks though are Cointreau and Grand Marnier.
    • Another approach is to start with a neutral-coloured beverage (i.e. clear or creamy) and just add some food dye.

Gift Idea above not quite right? How about one of these?
