Tech Lover

Overview

  • Is there a gadget obsessed giftee on your list? This theme is for those people in your life who love computers, gaming, IT (information technology) etc.
  • Think about things that a tech lover would like to receive or do:
    • Activities: classes in IT (eg: photoshop, build your own app, web design), use technology to take your giftee on a virtual world tour (eg: use Google Earth to explore the Seven Wonders of the modern world), make a stop motion movie with your smartphone or use it to go geocaching…
    • Electronic items: computers, headphonesspeakersbatteries, virtual reality headsets, portable chargers, phones, GoPros, drones and don’t forget software like video games
    • Gifts that work with technology: desk, office chairtech gloves, gaming chair…
  • You can keep the theme simple and just present gifts around technology or you can incorporate other themes. For instance, our Great Inventions theme includes the discovery of electricity so it works well with any electronics. Getting your giftee some speakers? Think about using our Senses theme which could easily incorporate speakers into the hearing category.
  • Think outside the box.
    • Take a video game your giftee loves and work the gift around it. For example, Super Mario Brothers:
      • Game component: Italian brothers. Gift: go for Italian food.
      • Game component: turtles. Gift: visit a local aquarium.
      • Game component: man eating plants. Gift: you can often buy mini carnivorous plants from garden centres.
      • Game component: mushrooms: Gift: mushrooms.
      • Game component: flames. Gift: make a campfire and roast marshmallows.
      • Game component: baseball. Gift: baseball cap/shirt or go to a baseball game.
      • Game component: fish. Gift: seafood dinner.
    • Bake your giftee some cookies and have them represent the cookies that websites use.
  • Stuck for ideas? Consider donating to charities that provide technology like computers to communities and schools in need.
  • Try wrapping your gift with plain paper and applying pictures of technology onto the gift, or draw them on yourself.
  • Tie a small technology related item into the ribbon around the gift (eg: a thumb drive).
  • Use an electrical cord as ribbon around the gift.
  • For smaller gifts, add a unique touch by making your own box.
  • Use quotes or phrases that relate to your theme when you present the gifts or in your card. For example:
    • “A computer lets you make more mistakes faster than any other invention, with the possible exceptions of handguns and tequila.” ~Mitch Ratcliffe
    •  Hope your birthday runs like a well oiled ‘machine’!
    •  If at first you don’t succeed, call it version 1.0.
    •  We may sometimes push each other’s ‘buttons’, but there’s no one else I’d rather be with. Happy anniversary!
