Animal Lover

Overview

  • Whether it’s your coworker who adores dogs, a significant other who has a passion for horses or the crazy cat lady next door, you’re bound to have a few animal lovers in your life.
  • Think about options that work around the theme of animals:
    • There are many restaurants and pubs that have an animal in the name (eg: The Toad and Turtle, The Grizzly House). Consider widening your search to nearby towns or cities.
    •  Any activity that includes an animal in the title can work here. Many sports teams have animal names (eg: Seahawks, Cubs, Dolphins) but don’t forget about arts and culture events like “Cats” and “The Lion King”.
    •  Travel somewhere that is known for it’s wildlife. This can involve epic trips like the Galapagos or African safaris or you can keep it closer to home. Think about a trip to the zoo or nearby nature reserves.
    •  How about items with animal print on them (eg: clothing, bedding, wallet, purse, shoes)? Or a stuffed animal?
    •  This is a perfect theme to give a pet (eg: cat, dog, fish). If you’ve decided to give a pet, please think about visiting your local humane society as they have many animals that need a good home.
    • Flowers generally bring on a smile, try tiger lilies.
  • On a budget? Keep in mind that national, provincial and state parks often have educational sessions to learn more about the wildlife in the park. These are often free and very well done.
  • Stuck for ideas?
    • You can’t go wrong with a donation to a charity that helps animals either locally or globally. Better yet, consider volunteering for an organization like the Humane Society.
    • Put your giftee’s favourite pet on a custom mug, collar, blanket or socks. There are plenty of websites that will do this for you, just check online.
  • You can work within a specific theme (eg: buying a cat, seeing “Cats” the musical and going to see the tigers at the local zoo).
  • Another option is to work the theme around different types of animals. You can add all sorts of fun gifts into the theme this way. An example might be a stuffed beara leopard print bag, dinner at “The Elephant and Castle” pub, seeing “The Lion King” followed by an animal themed cocktail like the Bee’s Knees or a Grasshopper.
  • Think outside the box.
    • A bird can refer to the actual animal, but it could also represent an airplane. A flight somewhere could fit this theme nicely.
    • ‘Animal lover’ can also be interpreted as someone who loves seafood or a great steak.
  • Animal print bags, envelopes, ribbon and wrapping paper are perfect for this gift.
  • If you can’t find any pre-made, print some of your own.
  • Tie a small animal related item into the ribbon around the gift (eg: a small stuffed animal).
  • You can decide to work within a specific theme (eg: buying a cat, seeing “Cats” the musical and going to see the tigers at the local zoo) or just keep it general.
  • Try playing the sound each animal makes before you give the gift based on it. Have them guess the animal before they can open the gift.
  • If you’re incorporating many animals into the gift, try presenting it as a virtual safari. For example, you could pretend you’re a tour guide and say “the next animal on your safari is one of the top predators in Africa then present them with a gift certificate for dinner at the Red Lion restaurant.
  • Use quotes or phrases that relate to your theme when you present the gifts or in your card. For example:
    • I can’t imagine life without ewe.
    • Love you fur-ever.
    • Wishing you a wonderful birthday/anniversary/etc…just for the halibut.
    • Happy anniversary to my otter half.
