Dark & Stormy Night / Power Outage

Overview

  • This theme is designed around a night at home and, for a little extra fun, pretend you have no power/electricity.
  • It works very well for a romantic night with just you and your significant other so it’s ideal for anniversary gifts as well.
  • Try wrapping your gift with plain paper and applying glow in the dark stickers onto the gift.
  • Tie a small related item into the ribbon around the gift (eg: a flashlight).
  • You could wrap the gifts in the blanket you’ll use to lay on by the fire.
  • Given that this gift is more about the experience, don’t feel the need to wrap anything at all, you could just give the gifts inside a box labelled emergency kit for power outage.
  • You could set the scene for the evening by turning off all the lights or even making your giftee guess some of the gifts by feel (opening them in total darkness).
  • Think about playing the sounds of a storm in the background.
  • Use quotes or phrases that relate to your theme when you present the gifts or in your card. For example:
    • There’s no one else I’d rather weather a ‘storm’ with. Happy anniversary!
    • I took a shot in the ‘dark’ and thought you might like a romantic evening at home. Happy birthday!
    • The ‘darkest’ hour is just before dawn. Hope things brighten up for you soon.
